Toubkal & Lake Ifni 2026

In 2026, we’re returning to Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak, with a brand-new 8-day route featuring more camping, breathtaking mountain scenery, and the stunning Lake Ifni. Our team will be taking on the highest peak at 4,167m and the highest lake at 2,500m. This is a life-changing adventure that combines challenge, connection, and personal growth.
This expedition is designed for people living with a brain tumour diagnosis. It’s not about being the fastest or the fittest. It’s about reclaiming confidence, strength, and hope, supported by a community that truly understands the journey.
100km Sahara Trek 2025

After the success of Toubkal, in November 2025 a new team took on a different challenge. A 100km trek through the Sahara Desert.
Once again, we had a 100% success rate.
These challenges, and all other other activities and services we provide, could not happen without your help. Planning is now well underway for our 2026 challenge. Please make a donation if you can (every penny really does make a difference) and be part of something amazing.
Thank you so much for your support.
Toubkal 2024

On 1st October 2019, Sara Crosland, founder of The Beyond Recovery Project, stood on the summit of Jebel Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa. Her journey didn’t begin there though; it started 506 days earlier, as she lay in a bed on a neuro high dependency unit, unable to walk and struggling to adapt to my new normal.
Almost a year and a half later, a friend gave her the opportunity to trek to Toubkal, at a time when she was really struggling. Psychologically, she was not in a good place.
When she finally reached the summit, she felt totally overwhelmed and empowered. This experience gave her the strength to move forward in life and set herself even bigger challenges. Now Sara wants to help others to do the same. To move forward beyond recovery.
In June 2024, the Beyond Recovery project took a group of brain tumour survivors, who have been on that same journey, back to the Atlas mountains so that they too could experience what it’s like to overcome the mental and physical challenges that life has thrown our way.
“Normal is very, very different and it can be incredibly lonely.”
Recovery can be an isolating place. You’re told, “You’re ok now, get back to normal.” But what does normal look like? Months earlier Sara received the news she had a brain tumour and needed life-changing surgery, now she needed to go back to normal. But normal is very, very different and it can be incredibly lonely. She no longer knew who she was, where where was going next or what her future looked like. She had to create a focus, and reinvent “normal”.
Our Toubkal Challenge, along with future challenges and activities, could not happen without your help. Please make a donation if you can (every penny really does make a difference) and be part of something amazing.
Thank you so much for your support.
